NEW FOR 2009!
The Reasons Why Families Come Back
Dan Scott, Brian Vander Ark
Gaining a family's trust begins long before they enter your kid-friendly environments. It begins the minute they walk through the front doors of your church. Discover how each relational touch-point matters. After all, it's usually not just a single reason that keeps a family coming back. It's the sum total of care that they've received during their whole church experience. Learn how to take a pulse of your own ministry as well as how to take steps toward ensuring that families feel welcome every time they walk through your doors.

Communicating the Orange Strategy to Your Church
Carey Nieuwhof
We've had lots of people ask us how to do a parenting or family ministry series at their church. So...here's the response you've been waiting for. In this breakout, we'll cover possible subjects for a parenting or family series, team dynamics, how to leverage your all your ministry areas for the series, plus some tips on how to follow up with families. Oh, and we'll also share some thoughts on what a parenting or family series should not do.
Orange-ology: Family Experience, Part 1
Mike Clear, Darren Kizer
FOR ANYONE WHO IS NEW TO ORANGE.
Is it possible to put a group of elementary kids in a room with their parents and keep everyone engaged and involved? Sure it's possible. Disney does it all the time. This session helps you discover what your community can become when you introduce an environment specifically designed to partner with parents and provide them with the tools to raise their kids in faith and character. See what a multi-media, multi-generational environment can do for your church. During this first part of a two-part session, we'll look at two Orange principles: Integrate Strategy and Refine the Message. You'll be challenged to consider why you need to build environments for families and why you should partner with parents who want to teach their kids what is really important. We'll also examine five of the top ten ways to create an engaging Family Production. (We'll save the remaining five for Part 2.)
It is recommended that participants in Part 1 also register for Part 2 during Breakout D.

Rules of Engagement...The Art of Communication
Reed Dickens
Mark Twain once said, “Noise produces nothing. Often a hen who merely has laid an egg cackles as though she has laid an asteroid.” Every communicator wants to be better at his or her craft. Unfortunately, in our attempt to become better, we tend to speak louder or longer, ignoring the chasm between speaking and communicating. Reed Dickens, former White House Assistant Press Secretary, regular contributor on Larry King Live, Fox News and MSNBC, and CEO of Outside Eyes, a multi million dollar consulting firm that specializes in media strategy and crisis management, leads this eye opening discussion on the art of persuasive communication, the goal of communication, keys to effective persuasion, non-verbal language, message training, and crisis communication.

Resisting Complexity - SR. PASTORS ONLY
Jeff Henderson
It's easy to get overwhelmed with all the creativity we've all got working on the latest and greatest "relevant" environments, programs, videos, and experiences within our church. And what about all those fantastic ideas that we get pitched to us that will reach a new group of unchurched people in our area? The ideas are great - well, most of the time at least. But weeding through them to remain focused on a single mission can be a challenge. And communicating the decisions about which ideas and programs your church will pursue (and which ones will not be implemented) can be awkward unless there is a clearly-stated plan in place to help your organization resist complexity from the top down.

Is There Anything Bigger Than the Church? Mobilizing the Next Generation
Stuart Hall
Be honest: When you think about developing student leaders, do your thoughts and the application of any process you have to that end tend to serve your ministry needs and the programs of your church more than developing gifting and inciting passion and dreams in your students? If you just answered yes then you HAVE to join Stuart Hall in this challenging and inspiring call to youth leaders to enable and inspire our students to become young leaders who will purposefully embed themselves into culture for the sake of influence. And, if you answered no to the fore mentioned question, we need you in this breakout to contribute your voice to such a necessary dialogue!

The push toward small groups is one such philosophy that is overstated and often misunderstood or hesitantly applied. Personal Transitions
Jim Wideman
There are three types of leaders we can identify: those who know they are in the place God wants them to be; those who aren't sure if they are in the place God wants them to be; and those who are looking for the place God wants them to be. If you fit the second or third description, this practical workshop will help you navigate through personal transitions in ministry.

Could Your Missions Strategy Use a Splash of Orange?
James Ward
In today's culture, where families are moving in every direction, we're all asking what in the world can we do to make sure our families stay close. At the 410 Bridge, we've experienced something that has given us a clue. The concept has been around a long time, but families have struggled with new ideas of implementing it. The idea is simply that families need to have opportunities to serve together.
God has blessed each person in your family and church with special gifts to administer His grace to others. Many times church separates service opportunities by different ages and ministries. Imagine a new paradigm of missions where the gifts of all ages from children's ministry all the way to senior ministry could compliment one another to make a significant global impact. Learn more about a missions model that aligns passions, gifts, and age groups - bringing families within a church together and mobilizing them to transform not just their world, but another world half way around the globe in a focused and powerful way.

Turning Off the Scoreboard
Brian Pingel
One of the most difficult issues facing youth ministry is the challenge of evaluating success. If we hope to truly impact this generation, we need to rethink the way we do student ministry and revolutionize the scoring system. Based upon new research in youth development, this session helps you identify the real goals for your ministry and develop strategies that will empower your students to find their own voice in leadership.

Nerve to Serve
Sherry Surratt
Sometimes serving others can seem intimidating. In this session, you'll hear about the concept behind "Nerve to Serve," a children's service club at Seacoast Church aimed at helping kids experience what it really means to make a difference in the lives of others-even when it makes you uncomfortable. Through discipleship, Bible study, and practical community involvement, kids can experience what it means to serve others with the heart of Jesus.

Training Parents to Raise Relationally Rich Kids
Carey Nieuwhof
So you’ve heard all about the “church” side of Orange—the “yellow.” Now it’s time to add the “red.” It’s time to equip parents for their responsibility at home. And that means helping parents raise relationally rich children. We’ll share the latest developments and thinking on the five parenting skills that were introduced at the Orange Conference and on the Orange Tour in 2008.

As traditional models of ministry fade away and your church goes Orange, you quickly realize that you need a new level of leadership and new strategies of management. This session helps you discover what your community can become when you introduce an environment specifically designed to partner with parents and provide them with the tools to raise their kids in faith and character. See what a multi-media, multi-generational environment can do for your church. During this second part of a two-part session, we'll look at three Orange principles: Elevate Community, Reactivate the Family, and Leverage Influence. You'll be challenged to consider how Family Production can do things that no other environment can do as well, whether Family Production means you believe that what happens at home is more important than what happens at church, and that God uses parents to shape kids so we need to create ways to shape parents. We'll also examine the final five of the top ten ways to create an engaging Family Production.
It is recommended that participants in Part 2 also register for Part 1 during Breakout C.

The Art of Producing a Sunday Experience
Jeff Henderson, Carlos Whittaker
You probably know what the message is going to be about this coming Sunday. And depending on your specific role, you know what your volunteers will be doing this Sunday and what is planned for your environment. But have you considered the overall experience that each person will have this coming Sunday when they walk through the doors of your building? How is information communicated about your programming? Are the bulletins actually effective? Is the worship leader connecting with your audience? What does this experience communicate about your church¡¦s priorities? In this breakout, you¡¦ll get to hear from two people who ask these questions and more every week as they try to reach unchurched people in one of Atlanta¡¦s most trendy and urban areas.

Reed Dickens

What mistakes have evangelicals made in the cultural and political arena that we must learn from? Is there a message for Christian leaders that we must adhere to in the Inconvenience Truth and Al Gore? Where should we spend our energy and resources? Join Reed Dickens, former White House Assistant Press Secretary and regular contributor on Larry King Live, Fox News and MSNBC for an engaging discussion on culture, politics, the Church, and what that means for you as an Orange leader. We all want to belong, but we don't want to work for it. Join a conversation focused on moving beyond Facebook groups to creating a space for transformative community.

How to Awaken Spiritual Parenting in Today's Families
Michelle Anthony
Parents are being awakened to their God-Given roles to be the spiritual nurturers of their children. But most parents feel inferior and ill-equipped for such a role. How does the church effectively come alongside their parents and both inspire and equip them to spiritually guide and grow their children, instead of merely taking on this role directly.

Scripting - SOLD OUT
Jared Herd
Everyone, whether they know it or not, has a script which they live by. The script is interpreted, memorized, and performed by everyone every day. Living in the 21st century in North America, our dominant script is decided for us by advertising, television, and men in ivory towers that we never meet. Before a child walks into kindergarten, this process of social formation is already ingrained. So as leaders in the church, how can we play the role of directors and producers of scripts that perform a different story than the one being played in our society? The gospel gives us a script that demands we never come off stage, and also that we live out the story of Jesus in whatever area of life we find ourselves in.

How Orange are Your Schools?
Tim Walker
When two entities work together, they can do something more than they each could do on their own. That's the core of what Orange is. And for many of us, we get how that works with the church and the home. But what if this principle could be applied elsewhere? What if there was a way of making your local schools Orange and aligning the home and the school to teach character to kids? And then what if there was a way for your family experience and your congregation to participate in promoting character values in the school? In this breakout, Tim Walker, the director of Core Essentials, Inc, will unpack the strategy of components of this program, and share stories from people just like you who have found ways to make an impact in their communities and reach people outside the church in a way that is respectful but impactful.
